The Final Reports from the TIARA project are published after 2 years of extensive engagement with international experts, guiding NRAs on their future responsibilities in Data and data infrastructure.

The availability of data from connected vehicles and connected road users provides benefits to road users and NRAs. But to use this data, the data and the data infrastructure must be trustworthy, secure, and private. European NRAs also need to maximise interoperability for road users to access and share more C-ITS data.

The TIARA project’s aim was to improve NRAs’ understanding of requirements for trustworthy and secure data and data infrastructure. Three research areas were identified:

• Practical guidance for the implementation of C-Roads trust models / PKI infrastructure
• The role of NRAs using C-ITS data, legal and ethical ramifications
• Road user data privacy and recommendations for NRAs to preserve location privacy

These research areas were studied through many workshops and interviews with international experts from various sectors dealing with data and data infrastructure, and roads industry stakeholders/users as the voices of customers.

The TIARA project has now published its findings in the Final Reports. These are an overview Final Report with high-level key findings (D1.2), and detailed Final Reports for each of the three research areas identified (D2.1/2.2, D6.1, and D8.1). These Final Reports are available to download from the Resources section of the project website (https://tiara.project.cedr.eu/tiara/tiara-resource/).

The partners also recognised that NRA representatives need help to improve awareness of the data and data infrastructure topics within their organisations, so a promotional flyer with challenging questions was produced to help raise interest.

Speaking at CEDR’s Final Programme conference for the 2022 Data programme, Steve Phillips, CEDR Secretary General, welcomed the publication of the Final Reports and emphasised the importance of data to NRAs and their operations.
