Drawing on the extensive industry surveys, interviews and roundtable discussions conducted as part of the study, it also sets out the strategic action required on investment, skills, infrastructure, procurement and national coordination to unlock the sector’s full growth potential.

Background

The first UK Semiconductor Sector Study was published in 2024, following the publication of the Government’s National Semiconductor Strategy in 2023. The 2026 study provides an updated and more detailed evidence base on the scale, capabilities and growth prospects of the UK semiconductor sector. Building on this evidence, Powering Tomorrow presents a clear UK perspective on the sector’s economic contribution, growth potential and policy priorities. It is comparable in purpose to the Semiconductor Industry Association’s annual State of the U.S. Semiconductor Industry report, while focusing specifically on the UK’s distinctive strengths, challenges and opportunities.
