Biography

Edwin Herrera Alarcón is an Autonomy & Connected Systems Specialist at Leonardo Helicopters (UK), where he develops autonomy technologies for next-generation aerial systems. He received his Ph.D. in Emerging Digital Technologies from Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, with research focused on autonomous vision-based drone navigation in GNSS-denied environments. His work spans robotics, computer vision, machine learning, and autonomous navigation, bridging fundamental research with real-world deployment. At Leonardo, he has contributed to the development of the Proteus Technology Demonstrator, the UK’s first autonomous full-size helicopter, and participated in multiple proof-of-concept demonstration on real UAV platforms.
