Role overview
TechWorks is expanding the focus of our Applied Electronic Systems Innovation Network (AESIN) beyond automotive to address opportunities across multiple verticals and bridge the gap between semiconductor device design and the electronic systems which these components are used in. We are looking to recruit for a 3/5 part time role working with the AESIN network director and COO to lead TechWorks’ systems agenda, shaping cross-sector programmes to advance complex electronic and software-enabled systems in transport, mobility, energy, industrial and emerging domains.
This role is also key to TechWorks’ mission in bridging across sectors from chip design to microelectronic systems, aligning priorities, strengthening collaboration, and ensuring device-level innovation connects effectively with system-level needs across industry.
Who we are:
TechWorks is the UK semiconductor and deep tech industry association, consisting of 300 member companies across the UK tech sector. We operate multiple collaborative communities driving R&D collaboration, innovation and thought leadership across industry, academia, and Government to deliver profitable growth for UK industry.
Our applied electronic systems community (AESIN) helps companies in multiple industries (eg automotive, industrial and aerospace) to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving world of complex systems. Through collaboration, networking and knowledge sharing, we connect companies and engineers to address shared challenges and opportunities.
Role responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver operational plans aligned with strategic objectives as agreed with the TechWorks management team, including connecting device design with system level innovation in key verticals, such as automotive, future mobility, aerospace and industrial automation.
- Work with member organisations and the TechWorks management team to develop and deliver a strong value proposition for existing members and potential new members by understanding short and long-term interests and needs to deliver an engaging membership programme of collaboration and events.
- Engage regularly with member organisations and other stakeholders, building strong relationships at all levels across the full semiconductor-to-systems value chain. You will be supported by the TechWorks member engagement team.
- Plan and deliver events, workshops and meetings to support collaboration and sector growth, whilst maintaining regular communication with members and the wider industry.
- Actively pursue opportunities for collaborative initiatives and projects to further build the membership value proposition across TechWorks’ communities.
- Assist with the delivery of projects and reports as required from time to time.
Role requirements:
Domain expertise
- Experience in any or all of the following areas: understanding of design and development processes including hardware, software, integration and embedded systems, architecture, digital and analogue design, design flows, System-on-Chip, and FPGA.
- Ecosystem and / or supply chain experience across the electronic systems and microelectronics industry.
- System-level thinking with awareness of development to physical, electrical, and performance constraints.
- Leadership and communication
- Strong communications skills, with the ability to engage technical and business leaders and work with cross functional teams at all levels.
- Able to inspire confidence and create trust, building strong relationships with member companies, external stakeholders and team members.
- Experience of people management and / or leadership.
- Well organised self-starter and team-worker, comfortable with remote working.
- Motivated to keep abreast of the latest industry developments and trends.
- Able to deliver against agreed objectives whilst meeting time and budgetary constraints, whilst managing issues and problem solving.
