SUMMARY:Women in TechWorks – TechTalk series with Catriona Wright (Chipletti)
DESCRIPTION:With Catriona Wright (Chipletti)\n‘The hidden hero of AI: Why SRAM matters’ \nAI is pushing chips to their limits\, and the era of monolithic designs is giving way to chiplets…But at the centre of this shift lies the memory wall. \nCould SRAM – the often-overlooked workhorse of semiconductors – be the hidden hero that helps unlock the next wave of AI innovation? \nCatriona Wright \nCatriona Wright began her career as a Digital ASIC designer at Nortel Networks after graduating with an MEng from Edinburgh University. Over the past few decades\, she has worked across start-ups\, scale-ups\, and large companies in the semiconductor industry\, successfully delivering projects from concept through to production. \nEarly in her career\, she transitioned from hands-on design to project management\, taking on her first Programme Manager role at CamSemi. \nWith extensive experience leading complex semiconductor programmes\, Catriona has always focused on enabling innovation – building world-class teams and systematically removing barriers to delivery. \nShe is now co-founder of Chipletti\, a fabless semiconductor start-up developing advanced 3D chiplet and memory integration technologies to unlock new levels of performance\, cost efficiency\, and power optimisation for AI and high-performance computing. At Chipletti\, she leads operations\, driving the company’s mission to deliver cutting-edge technology with real-world impact.

SUMMARY:TechWorks AI Webinar: Best practices for developing AI systems
DESCRIPTION:With Dr. William Jones\, Head of AI\, Embecosm\nThis webinar introduces the Techworks Best Practices in AI Guide\, a structured\, living reference to help teams plan and execute AI and ML projects. \nThe guide is organised around five core questions that capture the essential phases of an AI initiative\, from project definition through deployment. \nEach question is broken into a sequence of concrete tasks\, with explicit requirements and evidence metrics to track progress. \nWe’ll walk through: \n– The conceptual framing of the guide and its role as a continuous tool (not just a one-off checklist) \n– How the five major questions ensure comprehensive coverage of design\, development\, and deployment phases \n– The task tables: how to interpret them\, decide which tasks are optional\, and use the ‘evidence / done’ structure for accountability \n– Best practices for iterating back through earlier steps as insights emerge \nAttendees will finish with a clear understanding of how to apply this methodology in their own AI/ML projects and how to structure decision-making\, track progress\, and ensure no critical phase is overlooked.

SUMMARY:AESIN October Tech Talk: Autonomous driving: What could possibly go wrong?
DESCRIPTION:With Dominic Taylor of Cōnsilium Aquīs Sulis.\nBuilding on the 2025 AESIN conference presentation\, ‘Fifty years of autonomous driving\, lessons from the Rail Industry\,’ this TechTalk will describe some of the things that can\, and sometimes do\, go wrong with autonomous vehicle operation. \nThese include faults in the automation systems themselves\, which can lead to vehicles driving to the wrong place\, stopping in the wrong place or\, in more extreme cases\, fatal collisions. \nThey also include interactions with human drivers and passengers\, who can be misled into performing unsafe actions or suffer traumatic experiences as a result of deficiencies in automation systems\, and the wider operational environment. \nDrawing on real-world illustrations\, the talk will show what has at times gone wrong with rail automation and what lessons could be learnt for automation in the Automotive Sector.
